Bromley Partnership with Buddy & Lola Help Push Cleaner, Responsible Dog Ownership

In a brand-new partnership, Buddy & Lola and Bromley Council have come together, bringing awareness, and supporting responsible dog ownership by helping owners clean up after their pets in the local community.

With the installation of ‘66’ new bin stations across the London borough of Bromley, this exciting partnership will provide FREE compostable, biodegradable waste bags to dog walkers.

The aim of the project is to reduce dog fouling in ‘hot-spots’ and popular dog walking areas, whilst taking the pressure from the council- putting ownership of waste back to the individual. The environmental stations allow for those moments where owners may have forgotten or simply run out of bags.

The stations are sponsored by local and national businesses, with popular dog supplement company Buddy & Lola being the latest sponsor. Buddy & Lola are a well-established online brand who have helped over 100,000 dogs live healthier and happier lives with their unique and highly effective, all-natural supplements and online advice.

Steve Bolton CEO of Buddy & Lola says:

“Initially we understood the importance of this issue, which is best tackled from two angles. Firstly, to remind the small minority of dog owners who are not vigilant in clearing away their dog’s mess and keep their green spaces clean for everyone to enjoy.

And secondly, to provide an environmentally conscious solution, to ensure dog waste is disposed of in a sustainable and planet-friendly manner. By supplying FREE, 100% compostable waste bags to dog owners, we also hope it will show that responsible businesses can work with local people to protect, enhance, and enjoy our beautiful green and open spaces. Any opportunity to reduce the production of fossil fuel plastic, however small, should be encouraged.

The aim is to inspire dog owners to pick up after their pets and use the bags provided. With the two organisations working together with this environmental initiative, trees are also being planted to help reduce our carbon footprint for years to come.

Buddy & Lola are positively impacting the planet whilst getting exclusive outdoor advertising and boosting CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) with the help of stations supplier Eco Green Communities.

Bromley Council have been in a successful partnership with Eco Green Communities since 2017- after the implementation of 25 environmental stations to help tackle the problem of dog fouling. This increased to 40 stations in November 2020, reaching an impressive 66 by October 2021.

The use of compostable bags has a huge positive environmental impact and Bromley Council residents have used 580,000 of the bags so far. The bags would normally have been plastic taking hundreds of years to degrade- only 6 months for the compostable bag.

Just 1 kilo of this plastic would create 6 kilos of carbon, ultimately entering the earth’s atmosphere. This means that so far Eco Green Communities with Bromley Council have saved the planet 9.74 tonnes of carbon.

Martyn Bradley, Operations Director of Idverde said “In 2016 we ran a pilot with the Eco Green Communities to provide environmental stations that dispensed certified compostable dog waste bags, we started with 10 stations. The positive impact that the project has brought to the area has been significant.

With the involvement of Buddy and Lola as a sponsor for this project, it ensures that this is not only a zero cost to the council budget, but significantly impacts the community and the local environment positively by reducing litter, dog fouling, reducing single use plastic bags.

Green spaces have never been more important, and we are keen to continue supporting people to make the right choice. The borough now operates 66 stations, meaning even more of Bromley’s green spaces are covered.”
